Well, the oars that came with the boat are fine aluminium jobs and I managed a reasonable speed in yesterdays trials, but I needed something for manoeuvring into banks and when the current is carrying me fast enough and I just want to steer. And it does look a bit more Ray Mears don't it?
The trip from here down to the sea I plan to start when the leaves are on the trees, so that's going to be a while yet. The aim is to get to Spurn Head. http://www.multimap.com/
In the mean time I want to do all routes back to the house from upstream.
First is up the Anchor from Polesworth, about 12km it looks like. Should be a buzz while the river is still in spate from the recent rains. And then work back up the river Tame from the other side of Kingsbury water park area. And yes, I have bought a life jacket, got a whistle on it too!
Over a pint last night one of the doubters said he didn't think I would get permission from the authorities to do the trip... Blimey... I hadn't thought of asking... can't be against the law surely.. comments please... not that I intend it to stop me.
Anyway, it's made me think that perhaps not a good idea to get something in the Tamworth Herald before I go.
And a better idea has come from one of the non doubter "it'll be a series on one of those Sky channels about middle-aged nutters breaking away." Yes, that's better!

You got those eximo boots planted firmly in the frony of that boat there matey.Which surely means you were on a downhill section of the canal.
You wouldn't need to do that,if you tied your boots to the back of the boat.
This may not sound very logical, but that doesn't make it right.
Pirhana was on the other night,by the way,so let that be a warning to you, when you pass the sealife centre in Birmingham.
They have no pirhana's there, cos they are all in the canal. Reminds me of the old song, that they sing there. "yes we have no pirhana's)
